Today the states of the former Soviet Union are undergoing radical changes. They embrace all the spheres of social life: politics, economics, ideology, culture, mode of life, relations among people, and interethnic ties. Frequently these relationships must deal with conflict and confrontations and are accompanied by dissension and bitter national controversy. Old values, traditions, and criteria are being destroyed, new ones are rising, and the wrongly desecrated and forgotten are being revived. All these processes require an objective analysis and a clear plan to allow and encourage further development. Society and economics have begun the transition to a market economy. It will take years, almost a decade, to travel this road. But it is necessary to decide what we are leaving and where we are going. |
