An Overview of Efficacy of Clotrimazole in Otomycosis

Popis: Background: Otomycosis affects external ear, has tendency to affect ears with chronic suppurative otitis media and is recurrent in certain instances. Present study focused on the effects of clotrimazole in the treatment of otomycosis. Methods: Present study was conducted at ENT, Department Bacha Khan Medical College, Mardan Medical Complex, Mardan from October 2019 till March 2021. The results were compared on the basis of demographics including gender, age and presenting complaints along with the follow up. Results: Present study includes 30 patients out of which 22 (73.3%) were males and 8 (26.6%) were females. Based on age, patients included in age category 15-25 were highest 13 (43.3%). All the patients were treated with clotrimazole. The results show no significant difference based on efficacy in both male (63.6%) and female patients (62.5%) after administration of clotrimazole. Based on age patients range from 15-25 years has shown higher efficacy (84.6%) followed by age range 26-35 which is (55.5%) and lastly >35 years of age has shown least response to clotrimazole treatment (50.0%). Conclusion: Clotrimazole is an effective treatment option for otomycosis while it has shown better results in young aged patients
