Popis: Presented at the International Dementia Scholars Collaboration, “Emerging Technologies for Aging and Dementia” virtual conference June 8-9 2022. Background: Check In Care: Care Cohort (CIC:CC) is an advanced telecare app for older people to simplify access to online communication and activities through a simple interface. Objective: To evaluate the acceptability and usability of CIC:CC for older adults using aged care services including residential, assisted living and community care. Methods: At the completion of a 12-month non-randomised quasi experimental trial of the CIC:CC app involving 71 older adults without cognitive impairment, interviews with trial participants (n=7), aged care service care staff/volunteers (n=6) and family members (n=4) were conducted and analysed using thematic analysis. Results: The themes to emerge suggest CIC:CC enhanced connection to family and others and opened a new world for trial participants. Staff found CIC:CC was a positive addition to care and were surprised at how well it was received by older clients. However, physical capability and previous experience impacted its use and participants needed more support than expected which limited independent use. There was consensus the interface was easy to use and tailoring the app to individual interests and preferences was an important feature. Conclusions: Some participants needed more support than expected to use a tablet and explore online functions and physical limitations impacted the apps use. Overall the app interface, ability to tailor the app to suit the participants preferences and functions that promoted connections with family and friends, particularly during a time when many were isolated during lockdowns, suggest that with some modifications, CIC:CC could be a positive addition to aged care services.
