The challenges related to rolling out sustainable policies that respect the environment have led to a legislative and normative framework that accompanies the design stage for a product, particularly for companies. However, the associated tools proposed are essentially based on life cycle assessments and remain ill-adapted to studies conducted in the development phases of an emerging technology. Therefore, researchers and engineers are left alone with their environmental responsibility to make choices on the scientific and technological direction and without tools to help inform their considerations. This article provides a decision support tool for sustainable design of emerging technologies. This tool makes it possible to question and consider the environmental challenges related to emerging technologies. Two cases have been studied to illustrate the process and the results obtained: Smart composite materials and fuel cell systems. |
