Popis: | A previous communication described a modification of the Peabody scale ( 1 ) for measuring reading levels in pacients with little or no useable expressive oral speech ( 2 ) . This modification (Peabody,) has been particularly useful with the hearing impaired and with expressive aphasics whose reading typically cannot be measured with standard inventories. In the previous study the Wide Range Achievement Test reading level ( 3 ) correlated .72 with the Peabody, IQs. However, age-related discrepancies were found between scores on the Wide Range and the Peabody,. The present paper reports data for a larger sample and presents a correction factor for the discrepancies caused by the differential specificity of mental age by the two scales. Table 1 presents means, standard deviations and pertinent intercorrelations for age, Wechsler IQ, Peabody, score, and Wide Range reading scores for 60 hearing children referred for potential learning disorders. This sample yielded a higher correlation between Peabody, and Wide Range MA than did the previous study and also a higher correlation with age partialled o u t |
