The effect of harvesting ways on the tobacco yellow-leaf variety yield in conditions pre-mountainous zone of ArmeniaAbstract The purpose of this article was to compare the yield of different harvesting techniques of yellow-leaf tobacco varieties in a pre-mountainous region of Armenia. Between 2010, 2011 and 2012 in Ujan community of Aragatsotn region were conducted trials using the following methods of tobacco harvesting: (i) Typical I-II-III-IV Leaf pruning, (ii) Normal I Leaf pruning + Cutting Complete Plants, (iii) Normal I + II Leaf pruning + Cutting Complete Plants. Trials were made on Virginia NC-71, Burley-21 (American) and Ostrolist-59 (local) yellow- leaf varieties. Harvesting was done at the technical maturation of the leaves. The obtained results showed that the surface of the leaves at the whole harvesting was: 1st harvesting - 458.0-485.0 cm², 2nd harvesting - 479.0-502.0 cm², 3rd harvesting - 566.0-597.0 cm², 4rd harvesting - 440.0-460.0 cm². When harvesting was made by cutting whole plants the results correspondingly equaled to 457.0-646.0 cm², 4rd harvesting - 350.0-470.0 cm² or with 49.0-184.0 cm² higher. The total harvest of tobacco was 26.6-34.3 c/hectare, and 27.2-36.0 c/ha or 0.6-1.7 c/hectare. The content of I + II was 10.0-11.0% higher. The sum of the dry leaves of the I, II, III and IV reaping of tobacco has made 26.6 % or 34.3 c/ha. Based on the results of the study, harvesting of yellow-leaf varieties of tobacco in the Aragatsotn region and in the similar climatic conditions of the Republic of Armenia after the I + II leaf pruning should be done by cutting the whole plants. |
