Popis: | A patient presented with tumour masses—diagnosed as multicystic peritoneal mesothelioma—within the true pelvis, superficial perineal pouch including the penis and medial thigh. The tumour's mode of spread could not be determined clinically. Computerised tomography (CT) showed this to be through the obturator foramen, a previously undocumented route of spread. A 47-year-old man presented in January 1981 with a weak urinary stream and a swelling in his perineum. Examination revealed a fixed mass (approximately 4 × 3 cm in size) in the left anterior perineum involving the root of his penis and extending into his medial thigh. Rectal examination revealed an indurated anterior rectal wall which precluded the delineation of normal pelvic structures. Initial investigations included a full blood count, acid phosphatase, chest radiograph and an excretory urogram, all of which were normal.
