Popis: This chapter examines periodicals representing two major organisations that made the transition from the pre-war suffrage campaign and survived into the interwar era, the National Union of Societies for Equal Citizenship (NUSEC) and the Women’s Freedom League, and their official organs, the Woman’s Leader and the Vote. The chapter offers a comparative analysis of some key controversies related to discourses of equality (in the campaign for equal franchise rights) and the politics of empire to illustrate the importance of accounting for the strategic functions of these media and how publications might operate as sites of struggle within and between competing organizations. The chapter explores debates about old and new feminisms, drawing on other feminist periodicals such as Time and Tide, and points to other interwar organisations such as the Six Point Group.
