Popis: | How long has it been since you stopped to reflect on some of the spooky things in the Bible? I mean things like the dreams Joseph and others had; the visions related by the prophets; myths like Jonah and the whale; stories like the Transfiguration, Jesus walking on the water, and the appearances of the resurrected Christ; Paul's experience on the road to Damascus; Peter's vision related in the tenth chapter of Acts; to say nothing of the dramatic apocalyptic sections of the Bible, like the Book of Revelation at the very end. When I stopped to think about it recently I was amazed at the tremendous quantity of such material in the Bible. As I invite you to reflect on this material, as well as other such material, including some from your own experience, I especially raise the question of what we are to do with these phenomena that are described in the Bible, how we are to understand them, and whether there are any such things going on today. Obviously, our world view is quite different from that of the biblical writers. But how do we move from our world view back into theirs, or vice versa? More than that I want to raise this question: What are we to do about our own contemporary visions, be they dreams, visions, psychic phenomena, or UFOs? I shall have a succinct answer for that question at the end of this paper. |
