Marine algae are one of the largest sources for biogenic compounds. They produce a wide variety of chemically active metabolites. They are found to possess significant antioxidant, and phytochemical activities. Macro algae provide a great variety of metabolites and natural bioactive compounds with antimicrobial activity, such as polysaccharides, polyunsaturated fatty acids, phlorotannins and other phenolic compounds, and carotenoids. Several species of brown algae have been investigated for their bioactive natural products. In the present study the phytochemical, GCMS and Antioxidant assays such as ABTS assay and DPPH assays were carried out for Padina tetrastromatica using two different solvents ethanol and acetone. The phytochemical analysis showed the presence of alkaloids, steroids, and glycoside. GC-MS analysis of ethanol and acetone extracts of Padina tetrastromatica showed the presence of 35 compounds. For antioxidant activity, DPPH radical assay and ABTS radical cation scavenging assay were carried out. |
