Popis: | Ophthalmologic examination and stereofundus photography were performed in patients with Starr-Edwards aortic prostheses. In one young patient, whose clinical status had changed, we found 106 ragged microemboli in branches of retinal arterioles, in the retina adjacent to them, and possibly in the choroid. The silicone ball prosthesis which had been replaced after six years was discolored and showed marked surface irregularities. To our knowledge, possible microembolization from a ball prothesis to the eye has not as yet been described. |
