Popis: | Measurements of corneal thickness and curvature were taken with a modified Haag-Streit type 1 attachment and a Topographic Ophthalmometer along the visual axis and at 257° temporal to this direction in the right eyes of 65 subjects aged 18 to 27 years (35 females and 30 males). A positive relationship was found between the central and peripheral cornea for both curvature and thickness. No sex difference was apparent for either central or peripheral corneal thickness. The peripheral corneal curvature was found to correlate significantly with the peripheral corneal thickness (a thick peripheral cornea being found in an eye with a flat peripheral curvature) although central corneal thickness was not found to be related to central corneal curvature. These findings are considered in relation to a suggested form for the posterior corneal surface and in the aetiology of closed angle glaucoma. |
