Popis: | Nucleation and growth kinetics have been determined for the precipitation of calcium oxalate from aqueous solution using the steady state crystal size distribution in an MSMPR crystallizer. Experiments were performed over the temperature range 9–45°C. Above about 30°C the thermodynamically stable calcium oxalate monohydrate was formed whereas below about 25°C only the trihydrate was detected. Throughout the temperature range the steady state solution concentration was greater than the saturation values of both hydrates and the particular hydrate found in the product appears to be governed by kinetic rather than thermodynamic factors. |
