Popis: This article analyzes compensations, current ordinary practices in the human rights field implying the payment of a sum of money as a compensation for the violation of rights. Cases concerning the violation of rights in which the practice of indemnity made subjects self-described as relatives of the victims interact with each other and public managers representing the State were analyzed, in addition to situations in which such violations were not necessarily committed by public agents. When considering economic compensation practices in the broader context of reparation policies in Brazil, it was observed that indemnities are an ambivalent practice. Although often understood as a desirable legal answer by subjects whose rights have been violated and presented as an effective action by relevant international organizations at the field of human rights, it can also be applied in a dissociative manner not committed to the promotion of justice and reparation.
