Popis: This directory contains the code and data necessary to reproduce the results of "Ion heating in the polar cap under northwards IMF Bz", by L. J. Lamarche, R. H. Varney, and A. S. Reimer, submitted to JGR: Space Physics. IPWM The IPWM input and run configuration files are stored in the IPWM directory. The output of the IPWM runs are quite large (up to 50 GB per run), so they have been archived separately. The DOI links for these archives are as follows: - SDOP_May2014: 10.5281/zenodo.5081167 - SDOP_April2016: 10.5281/zenodo.5081176 Reading IPWM output files requires pyLTR, whos source code has been included here in pyLTR.tgz. Make sure to read the README and run the installation script after unpacking. This requires pyhdf (http://fhs.github.io/pyhdf/) and the hdf4 libraries (https://support.hdfgroup.org/ftp/HDF/releases/HDF4.2.15/src/hdf-4.2.15.tar.gz). These will likely need to be installed and linked manually as they are no longer officially supported. Depending on your configuration, you may also need to install the jpeg (https://www.ijg.org/files/jpegsrc.v9d.tar.gz) and zlib (http://www.zlib.net/zlib-1.2.11.tar.gz) libraries. RISR-N Data The RISR-N data files are in the RISRN_data directory. The resolved vector velocities files corresponding to these processed data files, as well as the configuration files to produce them are in RISRN_data/vvels. The resolvedvelocities code (v1.0.0-alpha) is available with DOI 10.5281/zenodo.4451504. To produce these files, run the following in RISRN_data/vvels: $ resolvedvelocities config_May2014.ini $ resolvedvelocities config_April2016.ini Scripts The scripts included in this directory produce article figures as described below. Scripts should be run with either Python 2 OR Python 3 (as indicated at the top of each script). - heating_hist.py - Figures 1, 2, 3 (Python 3) - ipwm_risr_rti.py - Figures 4, 6 (Python 2) - summary_plots.py - Figures 5, 7, SI movies (Python 2) - risr_heating_calc.py - Figure 8, Figure 9 (Python 2) Resen A Resen bucket containing all the necessary scripts configured correctly has also been included. To start up the bucket, download `resen_ion_heating.tar`, import it into Resen, and mount the supplemental model output directories as follows: -10.5281/zenodo.5081167 -> /home/jovyan/mount/SDOP_May2014_output -10.5281/zenodo.5081176 -> /home/jovyan/mount/SDOP_April2016_output
