Popis: Menstrual blood loss and changes in bleeding patterns were determined for 2 cycles before insertion and for 6 cycles after insertion for 37 women fitted with the copper-clad Lippes Loop and 44 women fitted with the inert Lippes Loop. For both groups there was increased blood loss in the first 3 cycles after insertion. This increase was greater in the copper-clad IUD. By the 6th cycle blood loss values were similar for both groups and gradually decreased in the 9th and 12th cycles. 1 year after insertion blood loss for women with the copper-clad IUD was less than preinsertion. For women with inert loops the blood loss values at 1 year had decreased from the first 3 postinsertion cycles but remained higher than preinsertion values. Preliminary results for the progesterone-releasing U-coil and the tranexamic-acid-releasing Lippes Loop are given.
