Popis: | This chapter examines the impact of public transport restrictions on older adults in India. It deconstructs the idea that older adults are a homogenous group and explores how reductions in public transit intersect with economic insecurity, isolation, and lockdown to amplify age-based inequalities. It also uses the case of Bengaluru city in southern India to highlight how transport protocols issued during the COVID-19 pandemic impacted older adults' mobility. The chapter reviews the exclusion of older passengers from the public transport system, which has implications for their access to work, social life, and essentials such as banking, health care, and groceries. It examines how events, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, further accentuated the already disadvantageous position of older adults in the absence of age-friendly interventions. |
