Popis: | In this article I aim to investigate the Italian historiography of interior design, to turn the spotlight on a particular research tradition sometimes neglected by comparison with other, better-known contributions to the history of architecture or the history of art. Each history of interior design reflects its author's point of view and training, and so provides another unique and essential piece in the construction of an overall picture. That picture tells an enthralling story, through many voices; and from their individual tones there emerges a characteristic Italian mode of “seeing” interiors and interpreting or querying them, one frequently drawn on by practicing architects and interior designers, and one which also gives us an essential reference-point in academic work. |
