Distribution: MEXICO: Campeche: Ensenada (Howden 1968); San Luis Potosi: 5 mi W Xilitla (Howden 1968); Veracruz: Almolonga; Atoyac; Coatepec; Cordoba; El Fortín; Jalapa; (San Rafael); Jicaltepec; Lago Catemaco (Howden 1968). BELIZE [= British Honduras]: M-tee (= Mananatee?) District (Howden 1968). COSTA RICA: Cartago: TurriLABA (Howden 1968); Limon: Reventazon, Hamburg Farm (Howden 1968). GUATEMALA: Alta Verapaz: Finca San Juan (Howden 1968, Orozco 2012). COLOMBIA: San Antonio, Berlin collection (Howden 1968, Howden & Joly 1998). VENEZUELA: Aragua: Rancho Grande, Portachuelo, 1100 m; Tiara (Howden & Joly 1998). ECUADOR: Banos, Paris collection (Howden 1968, Howden & Joly 1998). BOLIVIA: Cochabamba: Pcia. Chapare (Howden & Joly 1998). Lectotype (examined) Lectotype, here designated: MEXICO: 1 ex. syntype [HBBA], “ geometricus / Burm. / Mexico ” [handwritten by Burmeister, pinned to the bottom of the drawer], “ Trigonopeltastes / geometricus / Schaum / Syntypus [handwritten by A. Bachmann] / Museo Argentino de Ciencias Naturales [printed]” on red paper, black frame, “ Trigonopeltastes / geometricus / Schaum in Burm. & Schaum, 1841 / Lectotypus / Di Iorio desig. 2013” [handwritten by Di Iorio, red paper]. Material examined: BOLIVIA: Nor-Yungas, Nigrillani, Williner leg., I-1949, 1 ex. [ODIC], “ Trigonopeltastes / sp. / A. Martínez det. 1951”, I-1950, 2 exx. [ODIC]. Note 1: Howden (1968) and Howden & Joly (1998) state that the location of the type of T. geometricus is uncertain, and that the specimen labeled as “type” in MNHN is not the species described by Schaum nor figured by Burmeister (1846: 34, Fig. 2). Trigonopeltastes geometricus was described by Schaum (1841 in Burmeister & Schaum 1841) from “Vaterland: Mexico. Ein Pärchen aus Dupont’s Sammlung, ein Weibchen aus der des Hrn. Sommer” (making a total of three syntypes), and later it was re-described by Burmeister (1842) from “ Mexico, von Herrn Dupont”, “ ♂ ♀ ”. The specimen in the Burmeister Collection is considered here as one specimen of the syntypical series as it matches with the data given by Schaum (1841 in Burmeister & Schaum 1841) and Burmeister (1842). Therefore, this specimen is designated here as the lectotype of T. geometricus. Note 2: The record of T. geometricus from Colombia (Howden & Joly 1998) was omitted in Suárez-G. & Amat-García (2007).
