Popis: | A series of twenty-two patients with hiatus hernia and stricture of the lower part of the esophagus who were treated by lower partial gastrectomy has been followed up. Neither patients treated by repair of the hiatus and partial gastrectomy nor those with a concomitant duodenal ulcer have been included. One patient died postoperatively. Sixteen of the remaining patients have had follow-up study. In ten of these both pre- and postoperative x-ray examinations have been performed to permit a comparison. Four of the patients have died during the period of observation from causes not related to the esophageal disease. One patient has been completely lost to follow-up study. Results are satisfactory in all patients with five patients classified in the Visick I group and eleven patients in the Visick II group. The risk of over-looking a malignant lesion is emphasized. |
