Popis: | From the equation for pleural pressure it may be derived that at points of equal pleural pressure the change of elastic pressure equals alveolar pressure. According to this concept a method was applied in man in order to measure lung compliance from alvcolar pressure at equal jugular-notch retraction points. These points can be substituted for corresponding esophageal pressure points and are used for the determination of change in lung volume. This method is suggested for routine and reliable measurements of lung compliance without the use of an esophageal balloon. Results obtained in 22 subjects with this method correlate well with those for dynamic compliance obtained by the use of an esophageal balloon. |
