Popis: | An elevated blood level of homocysteine is an independent risk factor for artherosclerosis. This can lead to early onset of coronary artery disease, cerebrovascular disease and peripheral vascular disease. Clinical evidence is lacking with regard to its role in acute arterial thrombosis in the absence of underlying atherosclerosis. We report on a patient with an acute ischaemic limb secondary to an in situ thrombosis of the iliac and femoral artery where no atherosclerotic lesions were identified. Subsequent investigation revealed that the patient was hyperhomocysteinaemic. |
