Popis: | Different countries have introduced different schemes and policies to counter global warming. The rationale behind the proposed policies and the potential barriers to successful implementation of the policies adopted by the countries were analyzed and estimated based on different models. It is argued that these models enhance the transparency and provide a better understanding to the policy makers. However, these models are underpinned with several structural and baseline assumptions. These assumptions, modeling features and future prediction of emission reductions and other implication such as cost and benefits of a transition to a low-carbon economy and its economy wide impacts were discussed. On the other hand, there are potential barriers in the form political, financial, and cultural and many others that pose a threat to the mitigation options. {"references":["N Stern, H M treasury (STERN) 2006, \"Stern Review: The Economics\nof Climate Change\", Cambridge University Press.","Inernational Energy Agency (OECD/IEA) 2009, \"National and Sectoral\nGHG Mitigation Potential: A Comparison Across Models\", OECD/IEA,\n2009.","International Energy Agency (IEA) 2009, \"CO2 Emission from Fuel\nCombustion, 2009 Edition\", OECD/IEA, 2009.","Inernational Energy Agency (IEA) 2010, Publications Portal,\nhttp://www.iea.org/publications/index.asp.","United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC)\n2010, Kyoto Protocol,http://unfccc.int/kyoto_protocol/items/2830.php","Prime Minister's Council on Climate Change 2008, \"National Action\nPlan on Climate Change (NAPCC)\", Government of India.","Department of the Treasury 2008, \"Australia's low pollution future: The\neconomics of climate change mitigation\", Department of the Treasury,\nCanberra.","Inernational Energy Agency (WEO) 2006, \"World Energy Outlook,\n2006\", OECD/IEA 2006.","Transparency International (TI) 2009, \"Global Corruption Report,\n2009\", Transparency International 2009.\n[10] R Garnaut 2008, \"Garnaut Climate Change Review: Final essay\",\nCambridge University Press\n[11] Australian Government 2008, \"Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme\nAustralia's Low Pollution Future\", White Paper, Volume 1 and 2, 2008.\n[12] P Burstein 1991, \"Policy Domains: Organization, Culture, and Policy\nOutcomes\", Annual Review of Sociology, Vol. 17, 1991, pp. 327-350,\nAnnual Reviews.
