I should like to comment briefly upon the modifications to Iridium-192 after-loading techniques suggested by Miss J. H. Payne in her recent technical note in this Journal. The idea of using a 14 MeV neutron generator as a compact, relatively inexpensive neutron source for radiotherapy originated in 1963 (Lomer and Greene, 1963). Since then the idea has been pursued in a number of centres (Greene and Thomas, 1968; Brennan, 1969; Barendsen and Broerse, 1970; Duncan, Greene and Major, 1971; Kelsey and Boone, 1971; Booth and Barschall, 1972). |
