Popis: | Summary We have tested eleven non-steroid anti-inflammatory agents and two antioxidants, known to have prostaglandin synthesis inhibitory activity, for their ability to suppress irritant-induced epidermal thickening in the guinea-pig. We have found that salicylates and indomethacin were the most active. From previous experience, this activity is thought to correspond to the behaviour of these drugs in human skin. No anti-inflammatory activity was demonstrated by the antioxidants and therefore the unifying concept of prostaglandin synthesis inhibition as an explanation for suppression of inflammation is questioned. |
