Popis: Luna Innovations partnered with the Department of Aerospace Engineering at the University of Alabama, Huntsville, has developed a fiber-optic sensor for direct-contact, non-intrusive, pressure measurement in high pressure Liquid Oxygen (LOx). Two prototype sensors were demonstrated at 10,000 psi in Liquid Oxygen (LOx) at temperatures of 139 °R for at least one hour while several other sensors were exposed to LOx soak, vibration, and flow testing. The sensors successfully measured these pressures, incurring transients exceeding 4500 psi/sec rates of change without failure. Prototype sensors were also vibrated in two axes up to 90 G’s while under a pressure of 2,200 psi submerged in LN2. The sensor prototypes were designed to improve NASA Stennis liquid fueled rocket engine test facilities.
