Popis: The World Health Organization defines obstetric (maternal) sepsis as organ failure caused by infection during pregnancy, childbirth, post-abortion or postpartum period. It is the third most prevalent reason for maternal death. According to statistics, sepsis caused 11 percent of maternal fatalities worldwide.Physiological changes related to pregnancy may imitate the start of sepsis, which makes definitive diagnosis difficult. The definition of sepsis is gradually amended over decades. Various diagnostic tools and criteria are available.Prevention, early diagnosis, and appropriate management can reduce sepsis related maternal mortalities and morbidities. To reduce unnecessary maternal mortality, future policy development in the area of evaluation and care of obstetric sepsis is essential.
