Popis: Resistivity and susceptibility measurements on single crystal samples were used to construct the phase diagram of the 3D Mott system BaVS3 in the pressure- temperature (p-T) plane. The metal to non-magnetic Mott insulator transition is gradually suppressed until it vanishes at the critical pressure p Cr ≈ 20kbar, The high-pressure metallic phase is the first 3d-electron based non-fermi-liquid with a low-T resistivity obeying p—p o ∝ T 1.25 over at least one and a half decade of T. For p p cr, the metal-insulator transition is preceded by a wide precursor range of critically increasing resistivity. We discuss the nature of the various regimes, and point out similarities and dissimilarities to other strongly correlated d-electron systems.
