Popis: The article reflects the problems of ensuring security of diplomatic missions of Ukraine (DMU) abroad under the conditions of existing terrorist threats in a country of accreditation. In particular, it analyses the challenges of ensuring their safety in the cases of terrorist acts against DMU and blocking the offices of DMU by terrorist elements, seizure of premises of the institutions or taking their employees as hostages. The purpose of the article is to find effective ways of providing safety and security for diplomatic missions of Ukraine abroad, their employees and families under the circumstances of terrorist actions in the countries of accreditation. The scientific novelty of the research is the creation of modernized system of safety and security of DMU abroad. The aforementioned DMU’s safety and security system is based on the subsequent actualized legal norms and instructions and is supposed to be an adequately effective instrument of counteracting against contemporary vulnerabilities and terrorist threats to DMU abroad. In the article developed specific recommendations for actions in dangerous situations in the case of terrorist attacks in the area of DMU’s location, especially, when the terrorist act is followed by blocking the mission, taking the stuff members for hostages. Conclusions. Тhe new negative international security trends are now demanding from the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine (FISU) and other specific government bodies appropriate actions to ensure the safety of foreign diplomatic missions, their staff and family members and informed in state secrets citizens of Ukraine who are on their official missions abroad. Particular threats, underlined by the author are: spreading of international terrorism, organized crime, smuggling of drugs and weapons, illegal migration and trafficking in human; the rise of ecological and natural disasters; threats of epidemics and pandemics; escalation of frozen conflicts; growth of new sources of tension and crisis situations. Particular attention is paid by the author to terrorist and intelligence-subversive activities of special services of the Russian Federation in the East of Ukraine, which is triggering the new crisis area, referring to the security of DMU abroad. The developed world practice and improvement of normative regulation in the field of these issues will contribute to the solution of the tasks of ensuring DMU security during terrorist actions in their surroundings, with the blocking of representative offices by terrorists and the seizure of premises of institutions and their employees as hostages.
