Popis: | Trabajo presentado en el 11º Congreso de la Asociación Ibérica de Endocrinología Comparada (AIEC), celebrado en Vigo (España), del 13 al 15 de julio de 2017 This study evaluated the influence of high stocking density (HSD) and/or food deprivation (FD) on brain monoamines in gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata). Fish were assigned to one of the following treatments: i) fed at low stocking density (LSD-F; 5 kg·m-3); ii) fed at high stocking density (HSD-F, 40 kg·m-3); iii) food-deprived at LSD (LSD-FD); and iv) food-deprived at HSD (HSD-FD). After 21 days, samples from plasma and brain regions (hypothalamus, optic tectum, telencephalon) were collected. The levels of dopamine (DA), serotonin (5HT), and their respective metabolites 3,4-dihydroxyphenylacetic acid (DOPAC) and 5- hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5HIAA) were quantified in brain tissues by HPLC. The ratios of DOPAC/DA and 5HIAA/5HT were used as index of the monoaminergic activity. Plasma cortisol and catecholamines levels were also assessed. Fish exposed to HSD and normally fed enhanced plasma cortisol levels, which clearly increased due to FD at both stocking densities. Monoaminergic activity in brain was increased after both stress situations. We conclude that chronic stress induced by HSD and FD in S. aurata stimulates the activity of the brain monoaminergic systems, which could have a role in maintaining the stress endocrine response. s Supported by funds from MICINN (AGL2010-22247-C03- 03) and Xunta de Galicia (CN 2012/004), AGL2013-48835-C2-R and AGL2016- 76069-C2-1-R (Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad, MINECO).
