Popis: | Seventy-three single homeless patients were compared with a randomly selected control group of 75 home-based patients, matched for age, who were treated during a 4-month period. It was noted that the single homeless were predominantly male, unemployed, unmarried or divorced or separated, and not registered with any general practitioner. Their medical needs were, in the main, caused by alcohol abuse, overdoses of drugs and psychiatric illness. Although the hospital treatment of this group of patients was no different from that of any other group of patients with similar illnesses, their comprehensive care should be based on a wider socioeconomic approach. |
