Popis: From the point of view of estimating the condition of trees and tree stands, it is interesting to analyse not only forest complexes managed by the National Forests, but also trees and stands functioning in other forms, such as belts or clumps. For the former, there are developed appraisal reports, while for the latter – clusters of trees outside forests (shelterbelts and clumps) occurring in the natural (ravines, slopes, watersheds) and artifcial (roadsides, feld margins) forms – no environmental studies have been carried out. Wooded areas do not have properly established provisions in the context of management and preservation. Usually, shelterbelts, mostly roadside, are administered by municipalities which are only required to ensure safety against falling trees. To do this, they only conduct intervention inventories. Lack of a comprehensive approach to inventory of trees within the administrative units is very common. Due to the fact that estimation of phytosanitary state, species composition and spatial distribution of wooded areas is time-consuming and expensive, it is advisable to use remote sensing methods (laser scanning). Knowing their application in analyses of forest areas, the authors have made an attempt to use these methods for estimation of the basic parameters of shelterbelts. The studies were conducted in the area of Gen. D. Chłapowski Landscape Park. In order to determine spatial distribution and tree height structure of the shelterbelts, analyses of points clouds, i.e. spatial data from laser scanning (air and ground level), were performed. However, the author's primary goal was to get people who are involved in shaping the landscape interested in possibilities of modern and accessible remote sensing materials. They can be a valuable complement to classical methods of feld mapping.
