Popis: Stomach cancer is the 5th most common cancer worldwide. It is the 4th most common cancer in men and the 7th most common cancer in women . Stomach cancer, also called gastric cancer, is a growth of cells that starts in the stomach. In gastric cancer, malignant (cancer) cells form in the lining of the stomach. Age, diet, and stomach disease can affect the risk of developing gastric cancer. There were more than 1 million new cases of stomach cancer in 2020. Mongolia, Japan, South Korea, Tajikistan and China are among the top 10 countries with the highest rates of gastric cancer. Mongolia had the highest overall rate of stomach cancer in 2020, followed by Japan (Table 1). There is evidence that the following are associated with an increased risk of stomach cancer: smoking, Helicobacter pylori infection and industrial chemical exposure [4]. There is also strong evidence that consuming alcoholic drinks, salt-preserved foods and being overweight or obese increases the risk of gastric cancer. Additionally, there is some evidence that consumption of grilled or barbecued meat and fish and processed meat might increase the risk of stom ach cancer.
