Popis: | In view of the fact that septic shock is treated with high doses of corticosteroids, the influence of prednisolone administration on the course of experimental diffuse intravascular coagulation in rabbits was studied. Administration of a moderate dose of prednisolone for 5 d prior to thrombin infusion in rabbits inhibited reactive fibrinolysis. This resulted in a higher mortality, which could be prevented by synchronous infusions of streptokinase. No significant inhibition of fibrinolysis could be demonstrated after a single high dose of prednisolone, as used in the treatment of septic shock. |
