Popis: Purpose Voiding or bladder dysfunction in children is common seen in the daily practice. A protocol of drinking and micturition is helpful in diagnosing these dysfunctions. Up to now the Koff formula (bladder capacity (in ounces) = age (in years) + 2) has been established as gold standard. Despite its relevance, it shows certain weaknesses. It is often associated with not age-related bladder volumes and higher daily fluid intake. The aim of this study was to establish a logarithm for the daily need of fluid in healthy children using the ABC-formula (Age-related Bladder Capacity) (Age x 30) / 2 Material and Methods We examined prospectively a bladder diary in 60 children with no voiding or bladder dysfunction. These children were seen for other urological problems. We additionally asked for pooping habits. Three age groups of children were differentiated: Group 1: little children aged 5-7,(n=20) Group 2: small school children aged 8-10,(n=20) Group 3: big school children aged 11-15,(n=20) Results The results are represented in table 1. Table 1: parameter marks for healthy children in relation to the ABC-formula Age Micturition frequency ABC volume /ml Daily amount of urine/ml App. daily fluid loss with faeces and sweating (ml) Daily intake necessary (ml) 5 6-7x/d 75 450-525 app. 200 650-725 6 90 540-630 740-830 7 105 630-735 830-935 8 5-6x/d 120 600-720 app. 300 900-1020 9 135 675-810 975-1110 10 150 750-900 1050-1200 11 4-5x/d 165 660-825 app. 350 910-1175 12 180 720-900 1070-1250 13 195 780-975 1130-1325 14 210 840-1050 1190-1400 15 225 900-1125 1250-1475 Conclusions Using the ABC-Formula and adding the additional fluid which is necessary for faeces and sweating, the daily intake is easily and correct calculated for different age groups in children. Micurition problems or bad habits in fluid intake are therefore easily detected.
