This report aims to identify the barriers to implementing a midwifery model of care in the Royal Darwin Hospital. A Government directive was the catalyst to implement the model, however this precedes along history of consumer complaint and government review (Northern Territory Government Media Release, October 2002). The official project spans over a period of fourteen months with an immediate preceding history of nineteen months relating to other government directives. The directives affecting the project were to develop and implement a caseload midwifery model of care and to plan a birth centre (Northern Territory Government Media Release October, 2002). |
