Offshore fixed platform design has three main phases, the first of which is design of the deck that carries the topside facility. The dimensions of the deck depend on the function of the platform and the facilities that will be located on it. Chapter 3 begins with discussion of preliminary dimensions. The bracing system and the second phase of design, jacket design, are covered next. The third phase of the design is to assess the robustness of the deck and jacket design for lifting, pullout, transportation, launching, and installation, so the chapter proceeds to structure analysis and discussion of cylinder member strength. Next, components, including tubular joint design, topside design, boat landing design and riser guards, are explored in detail. Functional considerations, such as on-bottom stability, lift installation loads, crane loads and vortex-induced vibrations, are discussed as well. Finally, bridges and helideck design are described, and the chapter concludes with structure analysis and design quality control. |
