The need to study cost-benefit analysis of center based SC-22 pre-basic maize seed multiplication was to calculate the profitability of the activity undertaken, if an organization engaged in such kind of activities. Data were collected from daily performed activities, using structured questionnaire. The data were analyzed using percentages and gross margin analysis. The analysis reveals that the variable costs were 83.69 percent of the total cost of SC-22 pre-basic maize seed production. The fixed costs, on the other hand, were 16.31 percent of the total cost of production. The analysis of the revenue shows that 68.81 percent of total revenue was obtained from the good quality seed while 27.52 and 3.67 percent of revenue came from the stock (by-product) and poor quality seed (rejects) respectively. The economic efficiency analysis revealed a value of -0.49. These imply that additional cost of 0.49 Ethiopian birr is made for every Ethiopian birr spent by the seed multipliers. It was recommended that the out growers cannot be motivated by making available the needed material inputs at reasonable prices, due to occurrence of fall arm worm, stock borer and drought.
