Aryldichlorocarbenium tetrachloroaluminates are shown to be preferable reagents for the aroylation of 2-acetylthiophene, while the usual ArCOCl·AlCl3 complexes give better results in aroylation of 3-acetylthiophene. Scope and limitations of both aroylation procedures are discussed. |
