Popis: | Nowadays, most of the available unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are equipped with inbuilt cameras and depth sensors, which are capable of capturing images and videos of high resolution (sometimes with depth information). These images do have a wide range of applications with societal impacts, such as measurement of deforestation, mapping of damaged areas after natural catastrophes, detection, and inspection of roads/buildings/bridges/agricultural areas, spotting looted archaeological sites, inspection of flood, and earthquake-affected areas, and many more. In this article, some of such important aspects have been presented while addressing specific current challenges in the UAV-image-based application areas. The article intends to help the researchers and practitioners to better understand the present scenario of UAV-influenced research fields and apply to their fields accordingly. Some of the notable UAV-based image datasets with their key properties have also been introduced here for usage by industry practitioners. |
