Melting point diagram and heats of fusion of cis- and trans-1,2-dichloroethene

Popis: The melting diagram of the system cis- and trans-1,2-dichloroethene was determined in the usual way, by measuring temperature-time curves of samples of known composition, using a platinum resistance thermometer. Special care was taken in purifying the samples of both isomers. The binary diagram obtained turned out to be of the simple type, with one eutectic point at -90.3° C and 78 mol% cis-isomer. By plotting the logarithms of the molefractions against 1/T. for both branches of the diagram straight lines were obtained. Apparently the system is of the ideal type.
