Chemical crop protection agents play a vital role in the efficient production of our food and there is a continuing need for new compounds. Resistance problems and ever more stringent registration requirements have led to some older compounds being withdrawn and, thus, the need for replacements. Agronomic practices are continually changing and this leads to new problems that often cannot be solved by existing compounds, despite the fact that there are some 700 active ingredients listed in the Pesticide Manual (Worthing and Hance, 1991). |
