Patellar tendon injuries are a group of different injuries involving the lower part of the extensor mechanism. Two types of patellar tendon injuries are the most common. On one hand, acute injuries can lead to a tendon tear at different locations of the tendon. In general, these injuries have good overall outcomes. On the other hand, patellar tendinopathy refers to an alteration of the patellar tendon architecture caused by chronic malfunctioning or overload. With several different modalities to treat these injuries, they represent a growing challenge for the treating doctor or physiotherapist. |
