During the inflorescence development six stages have been described: stages a, s, γ, γ, e, ξ (1). The mitochondrial respiratory activity increases and reaches a maximum (respiratory crisis) at anthesis (stage e), then decreases at stage ξ(1). Young stages are characterized by mitochondria of high density. From stage γ their density decreases down to standard values. These changes are in relation with differences in the matrix contents, the volume of the intermembrane space and the contrast of the outer membrane of mitochondria (2). |
