A review is presented of manometer tubes and combined tube–transducer systems for coastal water level and wave measurements. Practical hints for design and deployment are given together with theoretical analysis of the dynamic response of the simpler systems and some experimental calibration results for the more complicated tube–transducer systems. These low-technology, low-cost and low-maintenance systems have been found to be viable alternatives and indeed, sometimes superior to the more traditional option of bottom-mounted pressure transducers. |
