Effects of silver nitrate applications on cucumbers (Cucumis sativus L.) morphology

Popis: Silver nitrate (AgNO3) is a frequently used chemical in several areas in agriculture including control of plant growth, flowering development and dormancy. This study was conducted to investigate the effects of AgNO3 on the morphology of cucumbers. The experiments of this study were carried out in a plastic greenhouse in Antalya/Turkiye during the spring and fall of the breeding periods. AgNO3 application was performed by spraying it on the growth tips of plants. The following doses (0, 250, 500, 750, 1000 ppm AgNO3 doses) were administered to the plants. The research was conducted four times each time the applications were administered to the plants. In order to determine the effects of the applications, the heights of plants and the effects of planting periods on vegetative characteristics were determined and the results were statistically evaluated. According to the results obtained in this study, AgNO3 led to shorter plant heights in some varieties, and the yellowing and wrinkling seen in the leaves of plants after AgNO3 applications of 750 and 1000 ppm doses, which disappeared over time. In the light of the results obtained, when researchers want to use the applications of AgNO3 in their studies, they should be careful at all times and arrange the doses correctly for longer plant life.
