Popis: The shallow water equations have been used to test the behaviour of a variety of parallel computer systems in numerical weather prediction. The algorithm is fully vectorisable, but in its parallel form, requires a high degree of synchronisation and data motion. This paper describes an implementation on the FPS T Series which is a distributed memory parallel computer in which each node is a vector processor. The strategies for data partitioning and the overlap of communications with computation are discussed and some comparative performance results presented.
