This article provides concepts about biorefinery from the observation of various reports registered in the literature. The main processes that have used microorganisms or enzymes in their platforms to produce high value-added substances from lignocellulosic materials, highlighting the obtained bioproducts, are described. Another main focus is related to recent biotechnological strategies for converting lignin into value-added products. From the use of renewable sources and the integration of Green Chemistry in biorefineries presenting low environmental impact technologies, sustainable production chains of fuels, materials and high added value chemicals can be established. |
