Popis: | On-line thermal desorption gas chromatography with combined Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) and mass spectrometry (MS) detection is a very powerful tool in identifying unknown organic components. It has been used in order to identify the building blocks of polymer blends in two plastic optical fibres of different compositions. When no reference spectra are available, both detectors provide useful information which can be used to improve the identification process in combination with other analysis techniques. The system was also used to study the effect of ageing of the optical fibres, resulting in the detection of additional degradation products in the aged fibre. |
