The concept of chimeras is part of antique mythologies where they portray a human body hybrid with different parts of other animals, considering it as a fabulous creature. Scientist describe chimera as an organism that has more than one set of parents and consists of cells from two zygotes. They can be classified as intraspecies or interspecies, depending on whether cell derivatives from the two zygotes are from the same or different species. Interspecies chimeras can be a helpful way to overcome the severe organ shortage in the medicine field. There exist different technologies helping chimeras research such as microinjection, aggregation, coculturing and blastocyst complementation. The aim of this article is to understand the importance of chimeric animals, its production method and prospects. |
